Aquatico Lets You Build Underwater City, Launches on Steam Today

Aquatico is one of the hottest launches of January. It's a promising Frostpunk-like economic strategy game. Later today, the title will debut on Steam and Epic Games Store.

Digital Reef Games will celebrate the launch of its debut game today. City builder Aquatico is one of the more anticipated January releases on Steam, and quite a treat for fans of underwater scenery.

Aquatico is hot release of January

For the first time the game surfaced in April 2022. At the time, the title was in an early alpha version, which, combined with the studio's limited experience, raised some concerns among the players. Since then, much has changed - the full version of the game will debut today, and a large number of fans of city builders are waiting for the release. Aquatico has made it to the wish list of almost 18 thousand people, which is one of the best results this month. More attention on Steam is attracted only by Forspoken (58 thousand observers), Dead Space Remake (38 thousand) and One Piece Odyssey (21 thousand).

Aquatico is a thoroughbred representative of the economic strategy genre of the city builder type. The core of the game is the reasonable expansion and improvement of the city, as well as the development of new technologies and the organization of expeditions. At this stage, the game resembles Frostpunk. The element that distinguishes the title from other similar ones available on the market is the underwater scenery - the action of the game takes place on the ocean floor, which may bring to mind the city of Rapture from the first two installments of the BioShock series.

The second advantage of placing the action underwater is the ability to build cities in a tier system (when we run out of space to expand the infrastructure on the ocean floor, we can put more buildings above them). The goal of the gameplay is to take care of the needs of the inhabitants, protect them from wildlife, and discover the secrets of the ocean. On Steam you can also download a demo of the game.

The game will debut on Steam and Epic Games Store at 8 am PT. The game's launch price and available editions have not yet been revealed.
