EA has abandoned the Black & White series, but their footsteps are not about to be followed by fans. One of them has just released a new version of a great modification, adding a mass of new content to the Lionhead studio's strategy.

In a few months, Black & White 2 will celebrate its twentieth anniversary of release. Unfortunately, this once-powerful brand has now been pretty much forgotten, as none of its entries are available to buy digitally, not to mention that the chances of a third installment in the series are practically zero. However, one devoted fan decided to take action and developed a major mod called Black & White 2 Plus. A few days ago, a new version of the project, numbered 1.4, was released.
The goal of the project is not only to improve the game but also to significantly expand it. The new elements are so extensive that they practically double the content in Black & White 2. The modification adds two new regions (Norse and Aztec), based on original plans from Lionhead Studios that were ultimately abandoned. Additional campaign missions, new enemies, and previously unknown powers were also introduced.
Detailed features of the mod include:
All in all, Black & White 2 Plus is currently the best way to play this game. It addresses the most significant issues with the original, and the new content is based on discarded ideas from Lionhead, making it a perfect fit for the rest of the game.
It’s a shame that Black & White 2, like its predecessor, can’t be purchased from any digital store. This is due to a complicated legal situation. Both titles were published by Electronic Arts, but the rights to the brand were shared with Lionhead Studios, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2005 and shut down eleven years later. As a result, there is currently no single entity holding all the rights necessary to re-release the old entries in the series. One can only hope that these legal obstacles will eventually be dealt with —because this series doesn’t deserve to be forgotten.
