After the by no means a small update Baldur's Gate 3 players can look forward to another very significant change. According to Swen Vincke, his team has made a breakthrough that will significantly improve game's optimization on all platforms.

The CEO of Larian Studios boasted on Twitter / X of the work of the "engineers" who have finally dealt with the main obstacle to improving the performance of BG 3. The issue is controlling the game's memory usage and providing a "buffer" in case of sudden spikes.

This applies to both RAM and VRAM resources, as Vincke illustrated in two graphs showing the results of internal performance tests that have been conducted since the PC release of Baldur's Gate III.

Third Baldur's Gate is far from being a badly unpolished game on its debut day, of which there was no shortage this year. Still, even the developers realized that the title needed a fair amount of work. Another thing is that the developer did not spare resources on patches for his "broken" creation. Suffice it to recall that each of the four giant patches introduced literally hundreds of changes (at least).

Nevertheless, it looks like, in terms of optimization, the next updates will be a huge step forward compared to the updates of the last three months. Probably the developers were motivated by the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3 on Microsoft's consoles, especially the Xbox Series S, whose weaker specs have long been a thorn in the devs' side (although the device has found quite a few buyers).

Official release date of Baldur's Gate 3 on XSX/S remains unknown, but in recent leaks it was said to be scheduled for release on December 6. Larian Studios' only mention was that it wants to release the game on Microsoft consoles this year.
