Can Battlefield 7 redeem the franchise? Community warns against building the hype
Battlefield Labs invites everyone to test the waters, but fans are staying cautious. Will this be the next chapter or just another letdown? Only time will tell.

Battlefield Labs was just announced, giving a first glimpse of the next installment in the series and inviting us to sign up for pre-alpha playtesting. However, even after three years, longtime fans haven't forgotten the disappointment of Battlefield 2024. The game's Steam reviews remain mixed, with players pointing a lack of content and a departure from the series' core gameplay that they loved.
What we know about the upcoming game
Just a quick recap of the recent news and what to expect from Battlefield '7', as we’re all still calling it that:
- Following the disappointment of its predecessor, BF7 is bringing back a story campaign. Players can also look forward to a ‘realistic and exciting environment destruction system’ to add to the chaos, in classic modes like Rush and Breakthrough, along with some fresh new gameplay ideas.
- The game is being developed by a large team spread across four major EA studios all now working together as Battlefield Studios, including franchise creator DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion (latest Need for Speed games, Burnout series), and Motive (Dead Space Remake, Star Wars Squadrons).
- According to recent news, 98% of developers working on Battlefield 7 weren’t involved in previous series installments.
- In a five-minute video, we got just about 10 seconds of actual gameplay.
New hope or same old disappointment?
So, while some Youtubers are doing their best to build the hype, Battlefield players are taking a cautious approach. At this point, everyone's pretty skeptical of game trailers, and only raw, unedited gameplay footage really convinces them. They’re still careful, since gameplay moments taken out of context can be misleading – like with BF2042, which had some epic moments but didn't address the overall mechanics. The debate is heating up.
You need to be holding until a good review and a month after launch, it will be rushed and unfinished and need a release day patch of 89Gb
Glad to be seeing this level of skepticism here, DICE needs to struggle to win back its fans.
I want Fidelity better than the previous title unlike 2042
I want a good gunplay unlike 2042
I want good maps unlike 2042
I want a UI/UX designed by professionals and not by 5 year olds
While BF5 was still visually impressive, BF2042 felt outdated with basic animations and poorly detailed maps. It lacked content, and promised features never came through. Sure, BF5 had its issues at launch, but it was still a lot of fun – if you didn’t let cheaters ruin the experience.
There's a lot of lingering uncertainty and frustration from previous games. The doubt is hard to shake, and many players are still wondering if Battlefield 7 can meet their expectations. We’re not asking for them to reinvent the wheel – just better visuals, polished gameplay, and that BF1-level immersion. That’s all.
At the end of the day, Battlefield veterans are saying one thing: No preorders this time.
