It’s Friday, so you know what that means: time for another round of Buzzwords in Cookie Jam. We’re back in the kitchen with today’s clues, but don’t expect anything too sweet, at least not yet. We kicked things off with “Pod vegetable, often in gumbo,” then moved on to “Jewish baked casserole.” Now, we’re tackling “Popular in Greece, layers of eggplant and meat.” So if you’re having a problem with this one, here’s a little help.
Not going to lie, this Cookie Jam’s Buzzword was very tricky. I had to search for the right answer for quite a while. Don’t think I ever heard of this dish before, but anyway, here it is:
Moussaka is actually a traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dish, though it’s most famously associated with Greek cuisine.
Greek moussaka is a layered casserole typically made with eggplant (usually sliced and fried or baked), ground meat (often lamb or beef, cooked with onions, garlic, tomato, and spices), and bechamel sauce (a creamy white sauce poured on top, often baked until golden). It’s rich, savory, and comforting – kind of like a Mediterranean lasagna, but without pasta.
In Turkey, a version of moussaka is made without layering, often served more like a stew. In Arab countries, it may be vegetarian and served cold, more like a mezze.
So, now that you know, you can make one yourself and most importantly, continue on with the next hint. Don’t forget to check out our other Cookie Jam guides, we have the answer for “Here we go round the [blank] bush,” and more.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
