The first announcements suggested something else, but in the end, the beginning of the new Witcher saga was titled The Witcher 4.
Since the release of Andrzej Sapkowski's new novel, Crossroads of Ravens, the bag with the info about the Witcher saga has been opened, bringing forth a wealth of information about the fourth installment of the popular game series from the CD Projekt Red studio. In an interview for GameStar, Miles Tost (lead level designer) and Philipp Weber (narrative designer) from CD Projekt Red revealed why the new chapter of the saga was titled The Witcher 4. This involves both respect for the series and pragmatism.
It's also hard not to get the impression that in this case the title is an extremely important sales asset. CD Projekt Red studio experienced it firsthand after the release of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. The ambitious title did gather positive reviews, but its sales didn't meet expectations. Perhaps with a different title more closely related to the original series, it would have been easier for it.
