Who's LoL's Most Complex Character? This Chart Provides the Answer

League of Legends has more than 150 playable characters, and determining the most challenging and complex one to play is a matter of debate. One Reddit user decided to measure this in a quantifiable way.

Debates about which League of Legends character is the most complex and "difficult to handle" have been going on almost since the inception of this popular MOBA from Riot Games. As more champions have been added over the years (currently 155, and there will be more to come), the perception of these "difficult" and "easy" characters has changed. And while you can find rankings online that rank heroes on a difficulty scale, it's hard to objectively measure which character is the hardest to play. A discovery from Reddit can give us some (albeit only partial) insight.

Reddit user by the handle Jechto posted an interesting chart on this forum that shows LoL champions with the longest skill descriptions over the last few years (from update 4.1 to 11.21).

The chart compares which character descriptions contained the most characters. And yes, in terms of skill descriptions, Lee Sin held the top spot for all seasons (averaging over 1400 characters). This is not surprising, considering that most of his "skills" have two modes of use. Characters such as Jhin, Kha'zix and Shyvana were also in the top four for a long time. In their case, the length of descriptions oscillated around 1300 characters.

Naturally, forum member opinions were divided this time too, especially with regard to the dragon Shyvana:

"Confirmed: Shyvana is officially one of the most complex champions in the game," writes user _AIQ_

"Shyv is a perfect example of how complicated damage mechanics can lead to a super braindead playstyle," jokes user kanated

The chart above is not an irrefutable proof of the "difficulty" or "ease" of the champions in question, but at least it gives some quantifiable values depicting how much time it takes to study a character's skill description. This cannot be simplified to a simple equation: "longer description = harder to use", but it does enable us to look at the issue from a different perspective.
