Creator of John Wick to Work on Dungeons & Dragons Show

The screenwriter of John Wick and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series has been hired to create a TV show based on Dungeons & Dragons.

As Hollywood Reporter learned, Derek Kolstad, i.e. the screenwriter and original creator of John Wick, has been hired to create the outline for a TV series based on the Dungeons & Dragons brand. So far, not much is known about the project other than that it will be a live-action production.

The order comes from eOne Group. It's a division of Paramount, which was set up to develop adaptations of Hasbro's tabletop game IPs and toy series. Interestingly, Kolstad's series isn't the only project from this family. There are also plans for a feature film starring Chris Pine and additional TV series that other writers have been brought in to develop.

It is currently unknown what Derek Kolstad's series will offer. It is possible that the screenwriter himself has not decided yet. Dungeons & Dragons offers a huge set of vastly different universes and ready-made book series, which would make a great base for the series. Fans would love to see an adaptation of the Forgotten Realms novels with Drizzt Do'Urden as the protagonist. Many D&D fans would also like to see the Dragonlance series, based on the novel series written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. However, Kolstad might as well opt for something completely new.

The expansion of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise has been gaining momentum lately, as the brand itself has been doing better and better. Sales of tabletop games from this family increased by 20% last year compared to 2019. In the field of digital entertainment, the release of early access version of Baldur's Gate 3 was a big success, and many people are also whetting their appetites for Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, co-created by R. A. Salvatore, one of the most popular authors of D&D books.
