A new update isn't enough - Cyberpunk 2077 fans are still waiting for a third-person patch. CD Projekt Red, however, has a firm opinion on the matter.
A few days ago, Cyberpunk 2077 received another update, thanks to which new missions, vehicles, and autopilot appeared in the game. However, this is not enough to satisfy a large part of the game's fans. One of them asked CD Projekt Red if they could add a third-person perspective in future updates. The response on X was short and to the point: the Polish studio has no such plans.
This reaction is not surprising at all, especially for people who have been following developers' statements for years. Cyberpunk 2077 was always meant to be an immersive first-person game from the start, so the studio focused on developing mechanics that would support this idea. However, the inability to view the character's back shortly after the title's launch encouraged fans to create their own third-person perspective mods.
After the latest update and another negative comment from the developers about the FPP view, someone made a video showing one of those mods. Since yesterday, the modification has been popular on Reddit, although it's not the object of the community's admiration.
The material shared by a user going by Axzsix caught the viewers' attention solely due to the female version of V gracefully moving her hips. Even though the title of the topic talks about "an amazing experience of seeing the world from a new perspective," it mainly shows poorly animated scenes that focus on the character. Just see for yourself!
The video can be entertaining, but the popularity of modifications like JB – TPP MOD WIP third person (nearly 450 thousand downloads from NexusMods) shows that many players would like to play Cyberpunk 2077 in third-person view. Even though the studio is planning something special for the 5th anniversary of the game, I don't expect the developers to fulfill fans' specific wishes.
However, the situation may look slightly different in the case of a sequel. Perhaps CD Projekt Red will consider the community's needs and allow for camera switching not only when driving vehicles. Similar solutions have been implemented in such games as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Ubisoft also plans to introduce them in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
