Cyberpunk 2077 or Edgerunners first? Players try to find the best way to experience Night City

Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 was announced a few days ago. On this occasion, we received an enigmatic teaser reminding us the first anime. It caused some controversies because the video revealed the ending of David's story (that’s definitely a heavy spoiler). However, let’s be honest, most people who are interested in season 2 have already watched or know what happens in this Netflix hit. On the other hand, for some it may be a good opportunity to revisit or visit for the first time Night City. There are numerous people who have not done it yet. There are many discussions on the topic what is the better first step into this universe – the game or anime, Cyberpunk 2077 or Edgerunners. Let’s answer that question.
Cyberpunk 2077 or Edgerunners first? What to choose?
When you want to begin your adventure with this universe it is worth asking yourself where to start. As the person who completed Cyberpunk 2077 twice, finished Phantom Liberty DLC and watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, I have one thing to say – there is no correct answer to this question. Both, the game and anime, tell two different stories.
If we speak about timeline, Edgerunners takes place before Cyberpunk 2077. In one of the side quests added after the show launch (Over the Edge), we learn pieces of David’s story, and an approximate date it takes place - somewhere between 2075 and 2076. So, if you want to follow the chronology and make sure that you don’t see spoilers, you should watch anime first.

However, some well-known characters from Cyberpunk 2077 like Adam Smasher and Rogue appeared in Edgerunners. Without knowledge from the game, these personas may seem alien to you. So, in my opinion, the best option is to start playing Cyberpunk 2077 first to learn something more about Night City and after a couple of hours switch to Edgerunners.
Probably the easiest to miss Edgerunners easter egg in Cyberpunk 2077 is Rebecca's shotgun called Guts. You can find it in the park in Corpo Plaza. It is hidden in small bushes next to resting monks. This gun is really good, so if you want to focus on close combat, this is a reasonable choice.
Remember though, that you can't make a mistake in this case. There are no wrong starting points to experience Night City. You should try them both... and maybe even the tabletop role-playing game.
