Days Gone Devs are Working on a New IP for Sony

Bend Studio is working on its next project. The game will offer an open world and be a new IP. The latter seems to definitely end the topic of a possible Days Gone 2.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Bend Studio's new project is an open world game and a new IP;
  • This confirms that, at least for now, there is no chance of a Days Gone 2.

Known from Days Gone, the team at Bend Studio is already working on the next project. The only thing we know about it is that it will be a new IP and an open-world game. The information was revealed by Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios group, which brings together developers owned by Sony.

These reports seem to bury the chances for us getting Days Gone 2 for good. Rumors of the project being abandoned surfaced in early April. A few weeks later, the creative director of the first installment let it be known that the sequel would not be made because players did not buy enough copies of the first game at full price. The production sold well, but mostly on sales.

Bend Studio's new IP could use the ideas that were originally supposed to appear in Days Gone 2. According to reports, the devs planned, among other things, network cooperation, recruiting teams and building bases.

It is worth mentioning that when rumors about cancelation of Days Gone 2 appeared in April, the usually well-informed journalist Jason Schreier claimed that some of the people working on the sequel had been transferred to Naughty Dog to help devlop the next installment of Uncharted. Some fans feared that this could be the beginning of the end for Bend Studio. However, as we can see, Sony decided to finance the team's new project.

Days Gone debuted in April 2019 on PlayStation 4. In turn, last month we lived to see the release of the PC port, which met with a warm reception.
