Destiny 2 - Shadowkeep Launch and Switch to Free-to-play

Tonight Destiny 2: New Light, a free-to-play version of Bungie's game, will debut. At the same time, the title will receive the paid Shadowkeep expansion.

The fun begins tonight.
DESTINY 2 IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Developer: Bungie
  2. Publisher: formerly Activision, now Bungie
  3. Genre: FPS
  4. Platforms: PS4, XONE, PC
  5. Release date on consoles: September 6, 2017
  6. Release date on PC: October 24, 2017

A new chapter in the history of Destiny 2, the online shooter from Bungie studio, begins today, as the game switches to the free-to-play model. The free version will be called Destiny 2: New Light and will be available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Today, the creators also take full control over the franchise, becoming its publisher. On the PC the result is a migration of Destiny 2 from Battle.net to Steam. Unfortunately, all these changes take time, so the game is currently unavailable. The servers will restart at 10 AM (PT). The devs warn that for the first two hours there may be technical problems, but everything should work smoothly by noon.

In Destiny 2: New Light, new players will start playing from Light level 750 with full access to season ranks and prizes. They will also be able to purchase exotic weapons and armor released in the first year after the game's launch. They will use all this in The Red War (base version of the game) and Curse of Osiris and Warmind campaigns, as well as in PvE Strike activities, in which up to three teams perform tasks culminating in a boss battle. PvP battles will be played in The Crucible mode.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep

The switch to a free-to-play model is not the only attraction prepared by the team at Bungie. The Destiny 2: Shadowkeep also debuts tonight. The standard edition costs $34.99 on Steam, PlayStation Store and and Microsoft Store.

Shadowkeep offers a new location, Moon, filled with numerous story missions and challenging quests. The expansion also introduces additional dungeons, raids and exotic equipment.

It's worth mentioning at the end that the creators released a full soundtrack from Destiny 2: Shadowkeep on YouTube.
