Dexter's Lead Actor Appreciates Criticism of Show's Finale

Michael C. Hall, who played the lead role in Dexter, told a little bit about why the ninth season of the series is being created. He also expressed his understanding with the fans who feel disappointed with the finale of season 8.

SPOILER ALERT

In the news you will find spoilers from the series Dexter.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Michael C. Hall claims that season 9 of Dexter will not be cutting off coupons and was based on an interesting idea;
  2. He fully accepts the criticism of the season 8 finale and considers it far from perfect.

In mid-October 2020, we learned that the well-known crime series titled Dexter would return after many years with a 9th, final season. Fans were happy because in the back of their minds they remembered the unsatisfying ending of season 8, but it was difficult for them to sense whether the creators were returning with honest motives and not dictated by the blind desire to make money on a dying IP.

Michael C. Hall, who plays the title role took the floor. The actor assured in an interview for Entertainment Tonight that it is not a spontaneous, unjustified return of the series. Season 9 will serve as this proper, well-written ending, which this time will not leave fans unsatisfied and disappointed.

The creators reportedly spent a long time discussing the merits of a potential sequel, weighing up all the pros and cons, and eventually came up with an idea that Hall also liked. The star admits that he fully understands fans' disappointment with season 8, as he finds it hard to fully rationalize it himself:

"From a story standpoint, from a character standpoint, it made sense to me what he did. But I certainly can appreciate why it left a majority of the viewers feeling left out in the cold or gypped or frustrated because he literally didn't say anything at the end. He had been talking to us the whole time and he just stared at the camera and it was over. He put his sister in the ocean. What the hell was that?"

It's good to see that the people in charge of the series are speaking out about the sins of the past and aren't afraid to bring up topics sensitive for the fans. This shows a healthy approach to the production of future episodes and acceptance of past mistakes. Season 9 of Dexter is set to air in the fall of 2021.
