Blizzard is Already Preparing 2 Expansions for Diablo 4

It looks like we will get at least two expansions for Diablo 4 in the future, and Blizzard is already working on them.

The fourth Diablo hasn't officially debuted yet, but Blizzard - like every developer - is already sharing information about the game's post-release support. Fans are unlikely to complain - we are expecting more new content than in Diablo III.

Expansions for Diablo 4

Rod Fergusson, the main producer of the latest installment, recently appeared in a podcast episode for the Kinda Funny Games channel on YouTube. He talked a lot about the future of Diablo IV, through which we learned that Blizzard is already working on two expansions for the game.

"So as I'm sitting here, we're scheduled to release the base game, we're finishing season one, we're finishing season two, we're working on the first expansion, we're starting to work on the second expansion.... We're working on all of that right now, and the game hasn't even debuted yet [the interview with Kinda Funny Games was published before the early access launch of Diablo IV - ed. note].

Unfortunately, we don't know what stage of work the expansions are at or how big they will be. It is possible that they will turn out to be similar in this respect to the DLC for Diablo III, Reaper of Souls, or even larger. Fergusson claims that lessons for the team in creating post-release content for Diablo IV came precisely from the third installment - which was not actively supported enough after its debut.

Seasons

We should not forget about the three-month seasons, which are the main part of post-release support of Diablo IV in free-to-play form. According to Fergusson they will be "deeper and more abundant in content" than those in the third Diablo.

The producer also reiterated what we have known for some time - each season in Diablo IV will have its own theme, and therefore a unique battle pass or cosmetic elements. In addition, it is expected to offer a standalone minicampaign with stories independent of the main storyline.

Diablo IV will be released on June 6 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and XSX/S, and PC. Those who decided to pre-order the edition of the Deluxe or Ultimate edition, can play the game from June 2.
