Blizzard is Already Thinking About Monetizing Diablo 4

Did you think that Blizzard, after introducing the ability to pay for practically everything in Diablo Immortal, would get a grip and not do the same in Diablo IV? Surveys sent out by the company may indicate the opposite...

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Blizzard is sending surveys to some players with information about microtransactions in Diablo IV.
  2. Apparently, all paid elements are supposed to be cosmetic only; they are not supposed to affect gameplay.

The release Diablo IV is not that far away, as Activision is certain about the game's release in 2023. It turns out that because of the upcoming release, Blizzard is already thinking about such issues as monetization. Indeed, the company is sending players surveys related to microtransactions in Diablo IV just in.

Some German players have recently been receiving surveys from Blizzard that are related to a number of paid cosmetic items in the game. These surveys have already been circulating in the Korean media. They are quite extensive, and concern not only skins, but also Battle Passes, in-game currency and early access to the game. All this for real money.

Reddit user BellasaurusRawr translated the surveys from German. Blizzard is not limiting itself; apparently it intends to monetize many elements in Diablo IV. Below are those mentioned in the surveys.

  1. Armors - set includes one for each of the five classes. Can be used an infinite number of times.
  2. Mounts and various armors for them - this would be a novelty in the Diablo series. However, the use of a mount is to be available only after completing the campaign.
  3. Back ornaments - look really powerful. Although the shown glowing wings are not supposed to affect the gameplay.
  4. Platinum - premium currency in the game. It is to be used for buying all cosmetic items.
  5. Battle Pass - supposed to contain only cosmetic items (still, a Battle Pass in Diablo? Really?).
  6. Early access - extra paid access to Diablo IV a few days before the release (on either the 2nd or 7th).

Apparently, anything that can be bought with real money will not affect gameplay - those are supposed to be purely cosmetic elements. At least this is supposed to be the case according to the surveys. Keep in mind, however, that this was not officially confirmed by Blizzard. The surveys aren't even sent out in large numbers, so you have to approach this information with caution. And although Blizzard has sent out similar surveys before, such as those regarding microtransactions in Overwatch 2, they still don't prove anything. Whether Diablo IV will indeed see microtransactions, we will find out after the game's release.
