Work on Dragon Age 4 Proceeds Smoothly but Launch Remains Far

Dragon Age 4 should come out according to the developers plan, but that doesn't mean it will happen this year. That's according to journalist Jeff Grubb, who also mentioned the chances for a trilogy of remasters are slim.

Looks like the release of a new RPG from BioWare isn't as far off as claimed last summer. Jeff Grubb from VentureBeat found out that works on Dragon Age 4 are proceeding smoothly and the title has a chance to be released in 2023. The journalist shared the information during the GrubbSnax podcast (via VGC).

Dragon Age 4 Not Before 2023

Of course, this is unofficial information, although Jeff Grubb is known for many confirmed reports. Nevertheless, as always, we emphasize to be cautious with this type of news.

  1. The journalist's sources assure that the game's development is going according to plan: the developers are completing subsequent milestones in time and there are no delays in sight.
  2. Despite this, Grubb claims that the release of DA4 will happen no sooner than in 18 months, so at the earliest in the second half of 2023.

Dragon Age Trilogy Won't Get a Remaster

Grubb also mentioned the issue that fans raised after the debut of Mass Effect Legendary Edition: the possibility of an bundle release of refreshed Dragon Age games.

  1. The journalist stated that there are no plans to create remasters of previous games from the series.
  2. One of the reasons is supposed to be that the first three Dragon Age are not very connected plot-wise, i.e. they do not create one complete storyline, as it is the case with Mass Effect.
  3. A second reason is the use of three different game engines in these games: Eclipse in Dragon Age: Origins, Lycium in Dragon Age II and finally the third generation Frostbite in Dragon Age: Inquisition. As a result, upgrading the entire trilogy would require much more work than with Mass Effect, which was developed entirely on Unreal Engine 3.

We still don't know much about the new Dragon Age, despite the fact that it's been a long time since the last trailer was revealed. It has only been confirmed that will not be a live-service game and will not be released on 8th-gen consoles (i.e. PS4 and XOne). The rest is speculation based on past teasers.
