Facebook Will Pay Its Users for Voice Sample Recordings

Facebook will pay users for voice recordings. The aim of the initiative is to improve speech recognition technology. In the past, the company was caught eavesdropping on customers without their knowledge.

Facebook will launch a new initiative.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Facebook will pay its users for voice recordings;
  2. The company offers around $5 for a batch or samples;
  3. Materials will be used to improve speech recognition technology.

The Verge reports that Facebook will launch a new initiative called "Pronunciations" the in Viewpoints app. It involves paying some users to record their voice. All this to improve the speech recognition technology used in various types of solutions related to artificial intelligence.

Interested persons will be able to record a specific phrase - "Hey Portal", and then say the name (without the surname) of one of their friends. The process will have to be repeated ten times - each time with a different name. Moreover, each sentence should be recorded twice. For a single batch of recordings, Facebook will pay 200 points in the aforementioned application, but the money can be paid out only after collecting a thousand (for about $5). The user may be asked to record up to five times, so it will be possible to accumulate the number of points required for cashing inl, even without completing other surveys available in the application.

It is also worth noting that in the past, Facebook - together with several other large corporations, such as Google, Apple, Amazon or Microsoft - was caught eavesdropping on users to improve their websites and technologies. It seems that the company prefers to be safe than sorry and does not want to risk any more PR failures. This is a sensible move, especially since the amount that will be spent on it by the companies is unlikely to be higher than the amount spent daily on Mark Zuckerberg's guinea pig pocket money.
