First Reviews: Subnautica Below Zero
Subnautica Below Zero debuted and received a ton of reviews. Most of them very positive, giving Unknown Worlds Entertainment reasons to celebrate.
After over two years in early access, Subnautica: Below Zero officially debuted today. The game by Unknown Worlds Entertainment is a standalone expansion for Subnautica, which became famous as an unconventional survival game due to its unique world and atmosphere. The exploration of the underwater world, full of darkness and secrets (some of them very aggressive) has captivated many fans of not only survival games, but also psychological horror.
Subnautica: Below Zero - selected reviews
Subnautica: Below Zero introduces to the game, among other things, the possibility of exploring the frigid surface of an unknown planet, on which we ended up crashing, and an additional parameter - the body temperature of the player's character (in case trying to keep the other bars at a decent level was not enough of a challenge). There are more innovations and changes in gameplay, but it should be remembered that this is not a full-fledged game, but only a standalone expansion to the basic Subnautica so you should not expect miracles. With this fact in mind, reviewers have a very good opion of Below Zero and the game can currently boast average rating of 83/100 on Metacritic.
The original Subnautica is one of those games I wish I could wipe from my memory so that I could plunge in and comb its depths for the first time all over again. No one’s worked out how to do that without some pretty severe side effects, but Subnautica: Below Zero is the next best thing: even though it’s a bit smaller, it gives us a whole new watery sector to explore, survive, craft, and build awesome bases in, and it’s just as exhilarating," - IGN, rating 9/10.
"Below Zero has taken no steps backward and instead offers an even more polished experience than its predecessor. As for gameplay and story, it’s not necessarily a better game, but it is certainly just as good," - Game Rant, rating 9/10.
Below Zero may not improve on Subnautica, but it's still an excellent game. [...] It's some of the best sound design I've ever encountered, and that I only got to it while summing up should give you some inkling of how good Below Zero ultimately is," PC Gamer, rated 8.6/10.
Subnautica: Below Zero is available beginning with today on PC, Xbox One, XSX, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
