Frank Herbert's Son: Dune Will be a Fan Dream Come True

Denis Villeneuve's Dune was one of the most awaited films of 2020, but unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, its premiere was delayed for several months. Brian Herbert revealed what fans of the book can expect from the adaptation.

According to Brian Herbert, son of Frank Herbert, author of the iconic Dune from 1965 and five follow-up novels, the movie directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049) will be "the definitive adaptation". He was impressed not only with the trailer released a few months ago, but also with the scope of the production (and he's not the only one). As an executive producer, he had the opportunity to be on the set in Budapest last year, witnessing the shooting of selected scenes. In his opinion, it will be a movie that the fans will love, adding that he couldn't have landed in better hands, because Villeneuve is the perfect director for this film.

We won't be able to verify Brian Herbert's words until October 2021.

Brian Herbert, who can be considered an expert on the Dune series as he continues the series after his father's death, together with Kevin J. Anderson, shares the opinion of numerous fans. A single movie is not enough to transfer the original to cinemas and TVs. The world created by Frank Herbert is "too complex and its strength lies in its meticulousness". Even if the quality of his works does not match the quality of the first novels, he knows the Dune universe like the back of his hand, so we can probably trust him on that.

Scheduled for October 1, 2021, Denis Villeneuve's Dune is to be a movie adaptation of the first half of Frank Herbert's book. It is not known how the coronavirus pandemic, which contributed to the last announcement of Warner Bros., will affect the sequel, especially as we are talking about a high-budget production. We would like to remind, that this is not the first attempt to adapt Duna- in 1984 David Lynch's infamous movie adaptation was released, while 20 years ago the book was transferred to TV screens as a Syfy miniseries. Let's hope that this time we get a screen adaptation worthy of the iconic and award-winning science-fiction novel.
