Dauntless, the Monster Hunter-style free-to-play action RPG, is becoming more and more popular. The devs reported that more than five million people have already played the title.

Phoenix Labs has reasons to be satisfied. The team boasted that over five million people have already played the RPG Dauntless. This number is impressive in itself, but equally impressive is the fact that on Friday the meter indicated "only" 4 million.
Let us remind that Dauntless is a game using a free model with microtransactions. The game debuted on May 21, this year on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Earlier, for several months it was available in early access (only on PC). The devs are also planning to release ports for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, but we can expect them next year.
It is worth mentioning that Dauntless offers a cross-play option, which allows owners of different platforms to play together. Accounts are also universal, so we can develop our character both on PCs and consoles.
We don't know the game's popularity distribution across different platforms. On PC Dauntless is available only through Epic Games Store. In the case of this title, this decision did not cause too much controversy, because during the tests the production had its own launcher and nothing was said of a possible launch on Steam.
Dauntless is a clone of the Monster Hunter series, in which players co-operatively hunt giant beasts. The game is simpler and less sophisticated than Monster Hunter: World, but unlike the latter hit, it uses a free-to-play model, which encourages one to try it out.
So here we have a situation similar to the one from a few years ago, when Paladins: Champions of the Realm gained popularity because it was a game inspired by Overwatch, in which you could play for free.
