Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire First Reviews; Fun but Flawed

Although the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will take place in April 2024, a select group of people have already had the opportunity to see the next installment of MonsterVerse. Accordingly, participants of the test screenings organized by Legendary Pictures have shared their impressions. Unfortunately, they may worry fans of the iconic Titans a tad.

From the reviews shared online, it seems that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will have a... very comedic character.. This shouldn't surprise anyone, however, since the movie's director is Adam Wingard, who held the same position for the equally lighthearted production that was Godzilla vs. Kong from 2021.

The bottom line, however, is that despite the lighter nature of the show, the audience present at the screenings rated the movie well. It's reportedly not a stunning masterpiece, but those expecting destruction galore should leave the screening satisfied.

Praise has also been sprinkled in the direction of the cast, headed by Dan Stevens, and the monster-to-monster fight scenes, which reportedly appear every twenty minutes.

Fans of Godzilla may be slightly less pleased with the movie, as it is Kong who received more screen time at the expense of the legendary Kaiju. There was even a statement in the reviews that Wingard did not treat Godzilla with due respect.

However, it should be emphasized that we are still talking about test screenings, which are meant for the creators to gauge the mood of the audience. So it's possible that by the time of the premiere, certain elements of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will change.

Whether this will actually be the case, we will find out on April 12, 2024, for that's when both Titans will take over movie theaters.
