From Dreamlist to reality, the GOG Preservation Program has done it again. This time, Breath of Fire IV and seven other games are getting their PC re-release.

The Breath of Fire series, developed by CAPCOM never quite hit the same level as RPG heavyweights like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or Pokémon, but over time, it built a strong cult following. Breath of Fire IV in particular is considered one of the best in the franchise, thanks to its storytelling and dual protagonist structure. These days, it’s seen as a hidden gem from the PlayStation 1 era. And if you’re a longtime fan, here’s a nice surprise: Breath of Fire IV is now available on PC through GOG!
GOG.com posted on X today that, 25 years after its original PlayStation 1 release, Breath of Fire IV is back, thanks to over 22,000 passionate fans who supported it through the GOG Dreamlist.
This updated version is fully optimized for today’s PCs, featuring support for Windows 10 and 11, enhanced DirectX rendering, new display options like Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, refined gamma correction, and a reworked audio engine with restored environmental sounds and new sound configuration options. It also includes both English and Japanese text (with Japanese audio only), staying true to the original release.
All of this comes courtesy of the GOG Preservation Program. Alongside Breath of Fire IV, seven more classic games have been re-released to help preserve PC gaming history:
GOG Dreamlist is packed with tons of classic games that deserve to be ported to today’s PCs. So, if you want to help save your favorite game, you can definitely cast your vote. Personally, I’m cheering for Persona 2: Innocent Sin to be the next one in the Preservation Program.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
