Gotham Knights - Details on Progression System and Living Game World

Warner Bros. Games Montreal has shared more information about Gotham Knights. The article on the official PlayStation blog mentions, among other things, the progression system and the open, living city where we'll encounter not only criminals and policemen.

Two weeks ago we've seen the announcement of Gotham Knights, in which we will visit the title city, abandoned by its greatest hero. What Gotham will look like without Batman is mentioned in the latest article on the official PlayStation blog.

Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood and Nightwing enter Gotham...

The article mentions four heroes that can be controlled by the players: Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood and Nightwing. Once again, it was confirmed that each of them will have a different fighting style, but will also have its own development tree and equipment. For example, Robin is a specialist in stealthy approach and making life miserable for his enemies, while Red Hood will bet on superior firepower, and as Batgirl we will benefit from the pros of hacking. There will also be no compulsion to play several characters in turns - we will be able to play the game from start to finish with one superhero if that's our whim.

Four different heroes with different equipment and abilities will enable us to approach missions in many ways.

Gotham alive and with a history

The choice of four of Bruce Wayne's protégés was no accident. Patrick Redding, creative director of Warner Bros. Games Montreal, explains that the team wanted to present Gotham as a city with a history, which is linked to the Court of Owls, an organisation that has been shaping the fate of the metropolis for over three centuries. Throughout the game, we will try to find out the truth about the Court of Owls, piecing together the facts discovered during subsequent missions. At the same time, it will be a story of young heroes closely related to Batman, who have to take the place of their mentor and prepare themselves for a new, huge threat.

Four young heroes will have to face a powerful enemy.

Apart from the narrative, this respect for history will also manifest itself in the construction of the world. Gotham will be divided into five different districts, full of characteristic places. Moreover, it will not be a dead city where we will find only criminals like in the Batman: Arkham series. While Rocksteady has always found a way to explain the fundamental lack of neutral characters in the locations we visited, Warner Bros. Games Montreal decided to raise the bar. As a result, the streets of Gotham will have ordinary city citizens dealing with their own affairs (or standing in traffic jams) according to the day and night cycle. The same will apply to police officers and common criminals, including members of the many factions fighting for influence in the metropolis. Moreover, the player's actions will not be without influence on the functioning of the city.

Unlike the Batman: Arkham series, Gotham Knights will feature actual inhabitants of the metropolis.

What's more, the article reveals a few minor details, such as level scaling of opponents, the possibility of exploring Gotham with the help of a grappling hoook or a Batcycle and the visual effects of weapons (informing us about the type of damage inflicted). As a reminder: although Gotham Knights will enable us to have fun in co-op mode, it will by no means be a live-service game. What will the game be then, we will find out with the disclosure of further information. Gotham Knights will debut next year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
