Ground penetrating scanner is a device used to scan an area in search of a variety of resources, which can then be extracted with a deep drill. The scanner searches for random resources, but there is a modification that tunes it to find specific deposits.

When the scanner detects a resource location, a notification sound will inform you, and the location of the deposits will be highlighted.

In order to make this device, you must first complete research on the scanner's design. In addition, you need:

  1. 150 steel,
  2. 4 components,
  3. 1 advanced components

Production takes 12,000 ticks and is possible if you have a construction skill of 8 or more.

Using the scanner and resource search time

Ground penetrating scanner must not be placed under the roof. The device consumes 700W of power, and the time in which it is guaranteed to find resources lasts 6 in-game days. However, sometimes this time can be reduced by half. This factor is modified by the research speed. If you want resource deposits to be found as quickly as possible, have the colonist with the highest intellectual skill operate the scanner.
