In an interview published by the Wall Street Journal, Harrison Ford praised Troy Baker’s performance in the recent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The new game was a highlight in Microsoft Gaming’s recent summary of the second quarter of the fiscal year. Reportedly, four million players have tried out Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, though it’s not yet clear how much of that was through purchased games or through Game Pass.
Ford talked to John Jurgensen of the Wall Street Journal, who asked if he “has taken any steps to secure control of his likeness in preparation for a future when studios will be able to make movies using fully synthetic versions of famous actors at any age…” referencing the latest Indiana Jones film, which did feature a synthetically de-aged version of Ford in a flashback.
In response, Ford said: “You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent,” referring to Troy Baker’s stellar performance as Indiana Jones in the recent MachineGames developed game. Overall, the video game adaptation, which was released back in December, has received critical praise (read our review), with Baker’s performance as a highlight.
Ford will continue working, saying to the WSJ: “When I don’t have my work, I don’t really feel free.” Within the last month, video game analysts have said that AI will speed up game development. But opponents of the use of AI continue to fight against it, such as the fan outcry when The Finals used AI generated voices for its in-game announcers.
Meanwhile, Xbox is in the forefront of recent news as fans are frustrated about exclusives making the jump to the PlayStation 5. Indian Jones and the Great Circle has already announced that sometime in the beginning of this year the game will arrive on the PS5. Recently long-time exclusives series such as Forza Horizon 5 and Age of Empires will be arriving on the rival console. We might even hear about some Xbox games in the rumored PlayStation State of Play next week.
