Homeworld is getting a prequel; Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak to launch in January

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a prequel to Homeworld and Homeworld 2 slated for release on January 20th, 2016. This is going to be a ground-based RTS with single player campaign and online multiplayer.

Blackbird Interactive (a studio founded by developers of Homeworld and Company of Heroes) and Gearbox Software announced Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, a prequel to the classic space real-time strategy Homeworld series. This title, previously known as Homeworld: Shipbreakers, has been officially included in the franchise to tell a new chapter of the beloved space saga.

No space battles this time though, as the game is set on the titular Kharak desert, the home planet of the Kushan people. However, the environments are still going to be vast and diverse (dune seas, craters, canyons, etc.). The player will command light and heavy vehicles both on land and in air, and take tactical advantage of the terrain in order to defeat enemy. Apart from story-driven single player campaign, Deserts of Kharak will also feature competitive and cooperative online multiplayer.
