How to remove Monster Hunter Wilds high resolution texture pack on Steam. This free DLC is causing some trouble
Problems with Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) continue. Turns out, the free high-resolution texture pack isn’t well optimized. If you’re running into issues, here’s how to uninstall it.

Monster Hunter Wilds launched yesterday and had the best Steam launch in the series’ history – no surprise, given its massive global success. Some Japanese companies even gave employees the day off! But things took a turn on PC, with the game now sitting at mixed reviews (only 48% positive). Players have reported crashes on startup, flickering textures, shader crashes, and more. Capcom responded quickly and is already working on patches, but the problems don’t stop there. Turns out, the high-res texture pack is causing issues too.

Don’t forget to check out character design codes shared by fans. If you’re not sure where to find them, we’ve put together a separate guide for you.
Just like Monster Hunter World, MH Wilds got a free high-resolution texture pack meant to enhance the experience. But while the MH World pack was well-received, the one for Wilds seems to be running into the same problem as the game itself and received mixed reviews.
Players are saying the high-res texture pack doesn’t make a noticeable difference compared to the game’s high settings, but it does tank performance, causing major stutters and a big FPS drop. Right now, the advice is to skip it until it gets fixed, especially since it weighs a massive 75 GB.
If you’ve downloaded the pack and are running into issues, here’s how to remove it:
- Open Steam and go to your Library.
- Right-click on MH Wilds and select Properties.
- Go to the DLC tab and uncheck the box next to the high-res texture pack. Steam will then update the game to remove it.
