Today, via the Nintendo Today news app, Nintendo has announced the date and time for the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct, which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18th, at 6:00 AM Pacific Time. The presentation will focus solely on the new Donkey Kong game and is expected to last approximately fifteen minutes. Bananza is planned to launch next month, on July 17th. This will be remembered as a major Switch 2 launch title, even though it wasn’t available immediately at the launch of the console itself. Here’s how to tune in on Wednesday.

How and when to watch the Donkey Kong Bananza Nintendo Direct this week

The Donkey Kong Bananza Direct already has a page up on Nintendo’s various YouTube channels. You can watch the stream on the Nintendo of America page or find your local version if you prefer. The stream is scheduled to start at 6:00 AM Pacific Time, 9:00 AM Eastern Time. You can set your own reminder or have YouTube send you a notification when the stream begins.

Donkey Kong Bananza was initially revealed during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, closing out the presentation. There’s still a lot we don’t know about this game, such as who the developer is. Plus, there is the mystery of its potential multiplayer element. Back in May, some observant fans noticed that Donkey Kong Bananza had been added to the “Local Multiplayer” category on Nintendo’s website. I checked that page today, and it’s still there, which suggests that it’s not an accident.

Chances are that on Wednesday, we will at least learn what this multiplayer feature will be. I still have hopes that it will be some kind of split-screen versus mode, like Donkey Kong 64, but I don’t want to get my hopes too high. The more likely outcome is that this will be something like the co-op in Super Mario Odyssey, where one player can take control of Cappy. Donkey Kong has a similar small friend over his shoulder in Bananza, so it’s not too far-fetched. But that feature of Odyssey was never really a highlight, so hopefully the Bananza team has come up with something a little more interesting.
