Hyenas Not So Bad; Henderson Delighted With Gameplay

The recent announcement of Hyenas disappointed the gamers. However, the developers did not present the gameplay footage, which Tom Henderson had a chance to see. The popular industry insider claims that it is impressive.

A week ago, Creative Assembly and SEGA revealed their new game - a first-person PvPvE online shooter titled Hyenas. However, players were not thrilled with the announcement. They were expecting something similar to Alien: Isolation. What they got was a trailer presenting a seemingly generic shooter, of which there are plenty on the market.

Meanwhile, popular industry insider Tom Henderson had the opportunity to see Hyenas in action. The gameplay footage made such an impression on him that he described it as "impressive". He also expressed his surprise that the publisher and the developer decided not to present the gameplay during the presentation. The game reportedly looks pretty complete - especially for a title that isn't due out until 2023 (on PC, PS4, PS5, XOne and XSX/S).

Graphics

Henderson specified the visual style of Hyenas as "more detailed Borderladns". These words seem to apply especially to the character designs, which look like they've been taken straight out of Gearbox Software's shooters (or some kind of superhero game).

Gameplay

The premise of Hyenas is quite simple - five teams of three players compete against each other for the loot from the so-called plunderships, protected by MFPF clones and various security measures. The team that first steals certain mount of loot during the match wins.

The more valuable and rare items are to be found only in the Vaults, the entrance to which requires the use of a breaching device, which takes about 40 seconds. Such a long wait is supposedly associated with considerable risk, but it will be worth it - the bigger the risk, the better the loot.

Henderson was particularly fond of 0-gravity rooms. The journalist said they fit perfectly into an FPS game where speed and efficiency count.

EASTER EGGS

I recommend you to watch the video on IGN channel on YouTube, where the creators of Hyenas point out all the easter eggs hidden in the first trailer of the game. You can find the video below.

Heroes

Hyenas is expected to offer eight playable characters, characterized by different traits and abilities. Tom Henderson has revealed four of them. They are:

  • Commander Wright - his weapon is supposed to be the Bropp Foam Gun;
  • Galaxia - will be wielding Herckle Shield;
  • Prima - who is supposed to have a Zero-G Harness (a harness that makes it easier to move in zero-gravity rooms?);
  • Doc Hotfix - who will support the Drono Drone.

What's more, a fifth character - whose name we don't know yet - appeared in the trailer. She's the one with the mechanized suit.
