“I can't believe they wasted it on this.” Marvel fans are disappointed with how this story was used, as it could have been an entire saga in the MCU

Fans continue to speak with disappointment about Secret Invasion, which they see as wasted potential for a good story that could have been an entire saga in the MCU.

Marvel's TV series, based on a story from the 2008 comics, was released in 2023. Secret Invasion follows Nick Fury and Talos, who uncover a conspiracy by a group of shape-shifting Skrulls intent on conquering Earth.

The synopsis alone indicates a story with considerable potential, perhaps even for an entire saga, not just one TV series, as Marvel fans who think that this plot was wasted by Marvel Studios for a production that performed average feel. The series didn’t gain the sympathy of either critics or viewers, actually receding into oblivion, despite the potential it had.

Some Marvel fans prefer to pretend that Secret Invasion didn't happen at all, while others write with disappointment that they would have preferred the story to be used as a theme for one phase of the MCU. Secret Invasion we got, according to fans, was too “small and meaningless.” In their opinion, the best time to open the door for the Skrulls would have been after Endgame, when the world was in disarray and needed to be rebuilt. The Skrulls would be able to use this opportunity to come among the people, while at the same time the meaning of past events wouldn’t be taken away, as happened in the TV series when we learned that one important character had long been a Skrull, which was met with considerable criticism from MCU fans.

The growing tensions and diminishing trust among the humans, built up over the course of not one production, but several, happening in the background and leading to the resolution of the mystery and the revelation that the Skrulls are among the humans, would certainly have had a greater impact on the plot than when it played out over the course of TV series that had low viewership and ended there.

I would’ve made phase 4 a recovery phase from Endgame mostly. The world is broken and disjointed and the new heroes are scattered, this allows the Skrull to infiltrate and take over and the scattered heroes come together and unite to take on the Skrull setting the example for the world – Chemical_Bill_8533.

Its actually insane. They could have spent an entire saga just sprinkling in Skrulls throughout each project, which would have kept viewers constantly on their toes and be fully invested in each show, not knowing which character is a Skrull

Then finally culminating in an Avengers movie where all the Skrulls are revealed and a massive battle ensues. It’s a slam dunk, and so obvious as well. But some corporate genius decided this was a better idea. By far the worst decision Marvel Studios has made – Senor_Tortuga308.

Secret Invasion really should have been the theatrical phase after Endgame. The Avengers were all either dead or retired, the whole universe was dealing with the chaos of The Blip, and it was the perfect opportunity for a race of shapeshifters to make their move and take over. They could have had each movie end with an end-credits reveal that one of that movie's characters was actually a skrull imposter, leading to a big Avengers versus Skrulls finale movie to end the phase – lanceturley.

Marvel fans were expecting something more from Secret Invasion. They hoped for a show that would have a real impact on the world, however, so far it isn’t visible at all. The plot was reduced to a small side story, which disappointed the audience. And even now, 2 years after the release of Secret Invasion, the disappointment hasn't gone away and Marvel fans can't get over how “one of few storylines that can carry a whole saga” was wasted.
