Jagged Alliance 3 (JA3) - Herman is Missing Guide and Decision

In the country of Grand Chien, the elected president has disappeared, triggering a power struggle with the rise of a paramilitary faction known as "The Legion." Jagged Alliance 3 follows the journey of mercenaries who were hired by the President's family. Their task is to locate the missing leader and reinstate order. Assume the role of their captain and embark on a mission to restore stability in the region. To do that you will have to complete many quests. One of them is called Herman is Missing. We will talk also about consequences of your decision.

Herman is Missing in JA3– Beginning and fight

This quest is available after you retake Ernie (the first village you encounter). Talk to Martha. She will tell you that her husband Herman is missing (I know, who would have thought). To find him, you must travel to sector I3. Before you start the mission, make sure that you have a mercenary who is adept at explosives, as you will need it.

Go to the proper sector. In the center of the map there is a big mine field. Don’t charge at enemies there. Make a little detour and approach the area from the West. There is a wall there which may be used to cover your troops.

Pick one person (preferable the one good with explosives) and enter the field, disarm explosives in your vicinity. When you come close enough to soldiers, a dialog will trigger. It doesn’t matter what option you pick, the fight will start. Retreat your soldier behind the wall and simply wait for enemies. They are in the open and you are covered. The rest of the fight should be quite easy.

Jagged Alliance 3 - Herman Decision

After the fight you can come closer to Herman. Watch out for explosives. The man also stands on the mine. Pick one of your soldiers (preferable the one with the highest explosive skill) and try to disarm the trap. Luckily, it doesn’t matter if you succeed or not. Herman will not die. Talk with him and you will learn that he is responsible for the death of a villager. The man will ask you to keep it secret. Your answer here does not matter.

Go to Ernie once again. There is a big crowd there. Talk to Basil and Luc. They are arguing. You may tell the truth about Herman or keep it to yourself. Depending on your choice, there will be different outcomes:

1. This is none of our business – Luc will be hanged, you will get 10 loyalty with Ernie. After that, talk to Herman, he will give you: 1 x Mortar Gas Cartridge, 4 x 12-gauge Saltshot, 2 x 9 mm Standard, 5 x Parts, 11 x Meds, 12 x Hollow Point, 1 x Nuts and Bolts Magazine, 1 x Bag of Chien Franks, 1 x Flak Leggings, 1 x Sleight of Hand, 2 x Tiny Diamonds, 1 x Confidante, 1 x Crowbar. It is not the best choice if you want to hire Pierre.
2. Herman did it – it will trigger 2 additional choices presented below.
3. Spare Herman – you will get 5 loyalty with Ernie. Talk to Herman, he will give you: 1 x Nuts and Bolts Magazine, 1 x Bag of Chien Franks, 1 x Flak Leggings, 1 x Crowbar, 1 x Mortar Gas Cartridge, 5 x 12-gauge Saltshot, 6 x 9 mm Standard, 7 x Parts, 4 x Meds.
4. Herman should hang – 20 loyalty with Ernie, the man will die.

Jagged Alliance 3 – meeting Herman again

If you have spared Herman, but told the truth, he will leave the Ernie village. You can find him later in Refugee Camp (E9). You can decide his faith once again:

1. Jobs in a mine – if you have someone with high leadership, you may offer Herman a job. He will agree and you will get 10 Loyalty with Refugee Camp and 360 EXP.
2. Money – you may also give Martha and Herman $2 000. You will get 10 Loyalty with Refugee Camp and 360 EXP. What is more some of your mercs may like this decision.
3. Can’t help you – as you may guess, this decision is neutral, and it brings no consequences.
