Kojima Productions Remains Independent; Hideo Kojima Denies Rumors

Hideo Kojima assured on Twitter that his studio, Kojima Productions, will remain independent. Thus, he denied rumors that big companies, including, e.g. Sony, were close to acquiring it.

From time to time, speculations and rumors regarding the future of Kojima Productions have surfaced online. They are connected, among others, with whether, on the wave of recent big takeovers by Microsoft and Sony, the studio will be taken under the wing of one of the industry giants. Recently, gamers noticed that Sam Bridges from Death Stranding appeared on the banner presenting the games from teams belonging to PlayStation Studios (via Resetera). This was supposed to be proof that the transition of Hideo Kojima and company to the Sony camp is imminent.

It seems, however, that potential excitement or sadness caused by this information may be premature. The reports in question were referred to by Hideo Kojima himself on Twitter. Here is what the creator of Metal Gear, who a few hours earlier himself shared the banner that was the source of all the fuss, wrote on the matter:

"I'm afraid I've misled you, but Kojima Productions has been and will continue to be an independent development studio."

Of course, such words may be a just a smokescreen. But in any case, so far we have an official denial that Kojima Productions is available for sale.

But that doesn't change the fact that Jim Ryan, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced that the PlayStation Studios family will be expanding. Which teams specifically will it include? The answer to this question will be revealed in the future.
