Aspyr Media's KOTOR Remake Pretty Much Confirmed

Highly reputable journalist Jason Schreier confirmed rumors that a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is in development.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Journalist Jason Schreier confirmed rumors about the upcoming remake of KOTOR;
  • Aspyr Media is said to work on the game.

For a long time rumors suggesting that work on a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game is underway. They have gained credibility now, as they were confirmed by Jason Schreier, who is rarely wrong in such matters. The journalist appeared on a new episode of the MinnMaxShow. When asked about the KOTOR remake being developed by Aspyr Media, the journalist confirmed that such a project is in the pipeline.

It is worth noting that so far there have been some discrepancies in the rumors. Some mentioned KOTOR 3, while others suggested a remake of the first installment. Schreier's statement means that the latter option is much more likely.

Of course, the question arises as to what kind of remake it will be. We don't know if it will remain faithful to the mechanics of the original and only slightly refresh them, or if the developers have something more ambitious in mind, along the lines of a new Resident Evil 2, where Capcom has retained the basic story, but the gameplay has been thoroughly overhauled.

Some fans speculated that the script may also undergo some changes in the remake, in order to make KOTOR fit into the new story canon of the Star Wars brand.

Of course, until the information is officially confirmed, it should be approached with caution. However, Schreier has a very good reputation when it comes to such matters, so it's unlikely that he's wrong.

Aspyr Media may seem like an odd candidate for the project's developer, but the company is actually very well suited to the task. After all, it has credits including porting Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords to mobile devices. In addition, the team recently recruited a number of BioWare veterans previously working on the first KOTOR.
