Rumors Suggest KOTOR 3 May be Developed Without EA

According to rumors, work is underway on a new installment of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. Neither BioWare nor Electronic Arts are involved in the project.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • According to rumors, a new Knights of the Old Republic game is being made;
  • The game is not being developed by BioWare;
  • Electronic Arts is not involved in the project either;
  • Reveal of the developer is to be a surprise for many players.

Interesting rumors appeared in the web, according to which the development of the new installment of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republichas already begun. However, the project is not handled by BioWare or any other team cooperating with Electronic Arts. The information appeared in the BOB podcast, in which it was revealed by Bespin Bulletin. Both sources are usually very knowledgeable on Star Wars matters, so there's probably something to it.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords continue to enjoy great reputation, so a new installment would meet with great interest. Star Wars: The Old Republic borrowed many solutions from this acclaimed series, but as an MMORPG it was unable to fully satisfy the fans.

Bespin Bulletin does not know who is involved in the work on new KOTOR, but the fact that the project exists was allegedly confirmed by journalist Jason Schreier. It was from him that Bespin received information that Electronic Arts is not working on the game. He did not reveal, however, who is creating the next installment, stating only that the reveal of the developer will be a big surprise for the players.

The creation of such a game is possible, because we learned recently that EA will not retain the exclusive license to create Star Wars games. The company still plans to publish titles from this brand, but after 2023 other publishers will be able to do the same, assuming they strike a deal with Disney, which owns the rights to Star Wars.

Ubisoft has already announced that it is working on an open-world Star Wars game. The project is created by Massive Entertainment, the studio known from Tom Clancy's The Division series. Announcements of further titles based on this license are only a matter of time.

Many fans would like to see a new KOTOR from Obsidian, which was responsible for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords. However, this team seems like an obvious candidate, so it definitely wouldn't be the "surprise" that is being reported.
