It looks like Konami cut some corers when porting Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. The new bundle apparently is aimed mainly at old fans of the original and intended to provide a series and to provide new audiences before the release of the remake of teh third installment. Admittedly, the scores are generally positive - the "7s" and "8s" predominate - but if you dig deeper into their content, you'll read a lot of complaints about Konami's small contribution in "refreshing" the games included in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 bundle. "If the visuals had at least been improved a little...", "does not justify the price", "commercial operation", "Konami could have done better," it reads.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 - selected ratings

  1. God is a Geek - 9.5/10
  2. Finger Guns - 9/10
  3. WellPlayed - 8.5/10
  4. Shacknews - 8/10
  5. Push Square - 8/10
  6. GameSport - 8/10
  7. TRG - 8/10
  8. Cultured Vultures - 7.5/10
  9. Noisy Pixel - 7.5/10
  10. SpazioGames - 7/10
  11. Gamereactor UK - 7/10
  12. Vandal - 7/10
  13. Stevicor - 5/10
  14. Metascore (PS5): 78/100 (based on 20 reviews)

What, then, justifies the above ratings? The answer is simple - the quality of the games included in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. Hideo Kojima - interestingly, the contribution of the Japanese was not emphasized in the credits - and the company have created masterpieces that, although somewhat aged, still entertain like they did years ago. In turn, thanks to "greedy Konami," we finally have easy access to them.

Worth mentioning is the fact that all reviews aggregated by Metacritic.com are based on the version of the package available on PS5. Significantly, each production - the collection includes: Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, MGS 2: Sons of Liberty and MGS 3: Snake Eater - appear in the PS Store as a separate app. Reviewers complain about having to switch between the two - it would be more convenient if all the games were included in one item.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will be released tomorrow for PC, PS4, PS5, XSX/S and Switch. It can be quietly hoped that Konami will release the second part of the bundle in some time, consisting of, among others, MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots, which originally came out only for PlayStation 3.
