Sony has prepared a new beta update for the PlayStation 5, which will see a new power-saving feature and DualSense controller pairing between several devices.
Sony has just posted an update on their blog, sharing what's in store for PlayStation beta program participants. According to the announcement, the new features should be available from today, July 24th, and include improvements for the PlayStation 5 console and DualSense controllers. In the case of controllers, we're talking about an option that players have been asking for a very long time. However, consoles can decrease its performance in certain scenarios (see Game Pro).
Among the new features mentioned, Sony talked about an energy-saving function that will also be active during gameplay. The introduction of the option is related to the company's plans to reduce emissions, as highlighted on the blog. In the beta version, energy saving is visible in the console settings, but the system doesn't support it yet.
When the final version is ready, players will be able to take advantage of energy saving. After turning it on, the game will reduce energy consumption, which will be at the expense of the games. Some features and settings in these titles won't be available, and VR gameplay will be disabled. What's important, the restrictions apply only to titles that support energy saving. If a certain game doesn't do this, the gameplay will remain unchanged.
So far, when we wanted to connect the DualSense controller to a given device, we had to pair the controller again. Sony is finally introducing a new feature that will allow the controller to "remember" up to four devices chosen by us. In this way, we will be able to switch freely between them without the need for re-pairing.
Each device can be assigned to one of the buttons on the controller: cross, triangle, square, and circle. Sony provided instructions on how to do it:
According to Sony, it's equally simple to activate the assigned device. First, you need to turn on the device, then hold down the selected action button and the PS button for 3 seconds. After this time, the controller will connect and you can start the game.
