New Version of Steam Offers Improved Support for Xbox and PS5 Controllers

The latest Steam update brings improved support for DualSense, Xbox Elite, and Xbox Series X|S controllers.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The new version of Steam app adds further options to support controllers from Xbox and PS5.

Valve released a new version of Steam app, which improves support for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Elite and DualSense controllers. While it's still not full implementation of features offered by the PS5 controller, it's a step in the right direction.

The latest version adds support for padlet mapping in the Xbox Elite controller. Its owners can finally freely assign the Share button to Xbox Series X|S and enjoy the vibrations thanks to the implementation of Windows.Gaming.Input API. Steam can also handle more than four controllers connected simultaneously.

For DualSense there is an option to customize the LED backlight, which indicates the number of the player using a given controller. Unfortunately, the novelties introduced by the device (haptic vibrations, adaptive triggers) remain not implemented.

To take advantage of the novelties, we must download the Steam update in beta version. In the app's settings we have to enable the appropriate option, then we will be able to download the latest version.
