Today, Nintendo announced the exact time for their April 2nd Direct focused on the recently revealed Switch 2. The Direct will take place at 6:00 AM PT / 9:00 AM ET. Nintendo of America shared a post on social media inviting fans to join on April 2nd for a closer look at the new console. There are plenty of rumors about what kind of features can be expected, including that the Joy-Cons might function like a mouse, but we will have to wait until April 2nd to know more.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct specific timing has been revealed

Recently, Nintendo revealed their latest financial reports, showing that sales of the original Switch are expected to drop again this quarter. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa reportedly said that he didn’t expect the reveal of the Switch 2 to effect sales of the original console, but with a release date set for this year, it makes sense that more people would wait for more information.

During this upcoming Nintendo Direct, there are many questions we hope to have the answer to. New and unexpected features, such as the Joy-Con’s mouse functionality will be a major question. If it does turn out to be true, it could be a great sign for traditional PC games like the soon to be released Civilization VII, to be brought over to the new console.

Other lingering questions include what the mysterious new button on the right-hand Joy-Con does and what kind of power-level the new console will be at. The current Nintendo Switch is notorious for being low-power, making it unable to run most modern AAA games that launch on other consoles. If the Switch 2 is able to run Xbox games, for example, it could be a huge platform for those games to jump to and bring Nintendo fans up to the modern era of gaming. Especially since Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has talked about supporting the new console.

What will make or break the Switch 2, will be its software lineup. Many expect this Nintendo Direct to include a look at what kind of games will be playable at launch. Nintendo’s biggest games this year include Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which are both confirmed to be released for the original Switch. The reveal trailer did show a new Mario Kart, which would be the first new game in that series in eleven years. Rumors of games like Elden Ring, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Call of Duty, and Cyperpunk 2077 have all been floating around, but nothing is confirmed yet.
