NiOh and Bloodborne Devs Won't Compromise; Wo Long Will Make You Cry

We learned a lot of new information about Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the new game from the authors of the NiOh series. We learned details about the combat system, multiplayer and new gameplay features. It was also confirmed that the game will come to PlayStation consoles.

One of the more interesting games revealed at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 turned out to be Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, a new game from Team Ninja. However, only a vague trailer and a handful of information was revealed during the presentation. Now, thanks to the interview for IGN, we got to know much more details.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - new information

The main producers of the game are Fumihiko Yasuda, who headed the teams responsible for NiOh and . NiOh 2and Masaaki Yamagiwa (who worked on Bloodborne and Deracine).

Platforms

  1. As expected, it has been confirmed that the game will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PS5.
  2. Previously, only versions for PC, XONE and Xbox Series X/S were announced, but this was due to the fact that the game was revealed during a presentation organized by Microsoft.

Combat

  1. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be a representative of the soulslike genre and the developers promise a very high difficulty level.
  2. The game will offer a faster combat pace than in NiOh, and the player will have to act more aggressively.
  3. Also the scale of battles will be larger than in NiOh.
  4. Clashes will be quite realistic. The authors do not want combat in the style of classic kung fu movies, where the actors fly around the screen on ropes. The player is supposed to have the impression that he controls a real person all the time.

Exploration

  1. The campaign will still be divided into closed levels, so we will not get a huge open world.
  2. However, players will have more freedom to explore than in NiOh, thanks to the addition of jumping options, which can also be used during battles.

Other gameplay elements

  1. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will have a multiplayer mode.
  2. The game will offer a character creator.
  3. There will be less emphasis on loot. Not every killed enemy will drop items and players will not be forced to endlessly upgrade their weapons and armor. The developers want us to focus on the action rather than optimizing item stats.
  4. One of the novelties is to be a morale system, both for the main character and the enemies. The devs are not yet ready to reveal the details, but they promise that it will provide new gameplay strategies that have not appeared in previous soulslike games.

Plot

  1. The game's plot will be set during the Yellow Turban Uprising, a rebellion against Emperor Ling of the Chinese Han Dynasty that took place between 184 and 189.
  2. The main character will be a volunteer who joined the local militia.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is scheduled to debut early next year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The PC version will be sold on Microsoft Store and Steam. The game will be available through a Game Pass subscription from launch day on both PC and XSX/S.
