Buning RTX 4090s Will be Investigated by Nvidia

The RTX 4090 has not had an easy time since its release. Reviews have no shortage of praise for performance, but the card has a serious reliabiliy issue that could affect the manufacturer's reputation. Nvidia wants to investigate the problem.

KitGuru received a response from Nvidia to an inquiry about a faulty 16-pin adapter for the RTX 4090 GPU. Unfortunately, the information it obtained is quite disappointing. So far, the company has not found a solution, is still investigating the situation and is not revealing additional details.

"We continue to investigate the reports, however we don’t have further details to share yet. NVIDIA and our partners are committed to supporting our customers and ensuring an expedited RMA process for them", Nvidia said in an interview with KitGuru.

In addition, to Nvidia's disadvantage is the fact that the issue has plagued the users for several weeks now. Some experts explained the defect by incorrectly connected plug, which should have been tightened firmly, and it happened that it was not. However, as we can learn from a reddit user, whose adapter failed, in his case nothing of the sort occurred.

Users are looking for the cause

Since the problem with the burning power connector emerged, a lot of theories have been put forward about how to fix the problematic plug in the 4090. Only that's how far we got for now, as none of the ideas solve the issue 100%.

According to Igor's Lab the entire 12VHPWR connector was poorly designed. The German expert suggests that it is enough to bend the wires in the wrong way to cause afailure.

A slightly different opinion is held by the editors of Gamers Nexus. In this case, they are talking about the very cables used in the adapter. The problem, according to them, is the 150-volt cable, used in some versions in place of the correct 300-volt version. During testing of the second variant, it was impossible to cause a failure.
