PS5 Was to be Sold With Hidden Defect; Sony Sued

The Japanese company that manufactures the PlayStation 5 will face a lawsuit from disgruntled customers. According to the owners of the device, Sony deliberately concealed its defectiveness when allowing the consoles to be sold.

Sony's brass is in for an anxious few weeks. All thanks to Christina Trejo of Illinois in the United States, who has filed a lawsuit against the Japanese electronics manufacturer.

Frequent failures

The plaintiff, who also owns a PlayStation 5, discovered that the console tends to shut down completely when in use. As it turned out, this was not an isolated incident. In an official letter issued by the woman's lawyers, we can read that many owners struggled with frequent crashes that could lead to product damage.

"Trejo and other plaintiffs claim that they often experience crashes no matter what game they are playing, which can result in loss of stored data, destruction or potential damage to the entire system," the lawsuit's justification reads.

Opinions as evidence

One of the pieces of evidence incriminating Sony is a number of online comments from bitter users over a period of almost two years of PS5 sales.. Their common theme is the unpredictable shutdown of the console during gameplay.

Serious accusation

Although the company repairs consoles that break down, and according to the rules, poor performance of the device during gameplay qualifies it for repair under warranty, Sony could be in serious trouble if a court finds the company guilty of concealing product defects.

At this point, no specific amount of compensation has been set. However, there is a chance that corporate representatives will try to resolve the matter with a settlement.

Not the first lawsuit

Interestingly, this is not the first time that dissatisfied gamers have complained about the quality of Sony's product. Last year, the Japanese brand was also sued due to problems with the DualSense's drifting analogs (we wrote about it here).

So far, Sony representatives have not issued any statement on the matter. We are left to wait for developments and further information.
