Pokemon GO Earns Better Than Ever

The first ten months of this year were enough for Pokemon GO to set a new revenue record. Since its launch, the game has already earned over $4 billion.

Niantic has reasons to be happy. According to the Sensor Tower analytics group, this year is the best year for Pokemon GO ever . The game's revenues for the first ten months of 2020 exceeded one billion dollars.

The game debuted in July 2016 and by the end of that year it had earned $832 million. However, afterwards, it recorded a big drop in interest. Revenue for the entire 2017 was "only" $589 million. With time, the devs started to make up for the losses. In 2018 Pokemon GO closed with $828 million and in 2019 - 902 million.

As you can see, this year 10 months was enough to break the previous record. It may seem strange to those who do not follow the development of this game, as the coronavirus pandemic encourages people to spend time at home. However, Niantic quickly reacted to this situation and already in March implemented changes that made it easier for players to play without leaving their four walls.

Pokemon GO is now one of the strongest mobile titles on the market. From January 1 to October 31, 2020, it was the third best-selling game on Google Play, behind PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings/Arena of Valor.

Analysts estimate that since its launch, Pokemon GO has earned about 4.2 billion dollars. Out of this amount, 1.5 billion has been earned on the American market, and Japan comes in second with 1.3 billion dollars. 53.4% of revenues were generated by the Android version, and 46.6% by iOS.

So far, the game has been downloaded more than 600 million times, of which the most (103 million) was in the USA. Brazil came in second (65.2 million downloads) and Mexico third (37.3 million). This shows how much the Japanese spend on the game, since it was the Land of the Rising Sun that came second in terms of revenue.
