Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Significantly Delayed

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake suffered another delay. According to the latest information, we'll wait for the game even until 2023.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will be released between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023;
  • It's not the game's first delay;
  • The game was originally supposed to debut in January 2021;
  • The devs assure that the work is proceeding and soon we will see the results.

We have bad news for players looking forward to the release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. It turns out that we'll have to wait a long time for the game - maybe even until 2023.

This information comes from the financial report of Ubisoft. In the section on upcoming productions Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is marked as a title that will debut in fiscal year 2022-2023, which is between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. It is worth noting that no specific quarter was given, so at this stage of work, the publisher is apparently unable to predict when the game will be completed.

Also the developers took the floor. The official Twitter account of the brand published a statement, in which the team assures that work on the project continues. The creators also promise that soon they will share materials showing the progress.

It must be admitted that the game's development cycle proved to be extremely bumpy, especially considering the fact that it is a remake of an old game. The project was announced in September last year, with release date set for January 2021. After that the game was delayed again and again. First, the game's debut was delayed until March 18, and then another slip was announced, this time without giving a new date. Five months ago it was announcedthat the title will be released in this fiscal year, that is, by the end of March 2022, but as you can see, this promise will not be fulfilled either.

The source of the problems probably lies in the fact that the announcement of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was received very coldly - the players did not hide disappointment, especially with the quality of graphics. Some time later, updated materials were shown, which looked better, but still left much to be desired. Since then, the project has went off the radar, so we suspect that a decision has been made to completely revamp the game. This process probably takes more time than expected.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is coming to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The PC version will be sold on Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store.

While waiting for the remake, it's worth going back to older installments - especially with mods.

We'll be waiting a long time for the remake, so a return to the early installments of the series might be a worthwhile option. On the PC you can use a fan modification for The Sands of Time, which will enable you to run the game in high resolution widescreen. Similar modifications have also been created for the remaining installments of the trilogy, namely Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. A good sggestion for those who feel like having some more old-school fun would be SDLPoP, a free game, which is an open-source remake of the first game in the series.
