After a short break, Cookie Jam is back with patriotic questions. Let’s answer “… & stripes” puzzle.
The theme of this week’s Cookie Jam questions is without a doubt the United States. The opportunity is good because of the July 4 festivities. It is Independence Day. So, we answer various patriotic questions. Like “What the US declared in 1776,” “Author of Declaration of Independence” and “July 4th is America’s version of this.” Now it is time to solve another one - “… & stripes.”
While this week’s Buzzwords feature some general questions like “Portable cold box” and “Water rescuer,” we are mostly asked to solve puzzles about the United States. Until now we had encountered two crosswords about the flag - „Red, white and...” and “Placed on building and can be waved.” Now, it’s time for the third one.
Of course, it is a reference to the US flag, as it features stripes and stars. I believe that it is one of the most interesting flags due to its symbolism. Its design is not random or lost in history. 13 stripes on the flag represent the original colonies which created the country. On the other hand, the stars image all states that are part of the United States, with the latest change in 1960, after admission of Hawaii in 1959 (it was a close call with Alaska, which joined the US the same year). The popular story is that the author of the contemporary flag design is Robert G. Heft, a teenager at that time. However, it was contested by Alec Nevala-Lee in his article False Flag.
With the answer to “… & stripes,” you can continue to the next question, which is “What people do in a parade.” Good luck.
