Many people are puzzled by “don’t fall apart” question in Cookie Jam. To be honest I had my share of guesses in this case, too.
In most cases, Buzzwords questions in Cookie Jam are quite straightforward – even if we don’t know the answer, we know what we are looking for. However, from time to time, they can be surprisingly vague. “Don't fall apart” is a great example of that. It was probably the first question, which was so problematic for me, as I couldn’t figure out what Cookie Jam expects me to write. The answer is quite surprising.
Don’t fall apart was probably the most difficult Cookie Jam question for me. It is because I was looking in a completely different direction than developers in this one. Why? Let’s start with answering this Buzzword:
Those who know the word crumble may be surprised, as this is the complete opposite of “don’t fall apart”, as crumble means to be broken into fragments. So, how does this word work in this context? It is not a linguistic question but a culinary one.
You have probably figured it out at this point, but Buzzwords don’t have only one theme. There are many of them. While it is quite common that we have to answer some inquiries about cooking (for example On the cob or creamed), there are questions from different fields like nature (uneven ground with small stones), history (Egyptian Tomb), music (piano, organ, harpsichord, dolceola), or even physics (what ice cream does in warm weather). In this case I thought that don’t fall apart is a linguistic question. I was wrong. It is a reference to… crumble. It is a British dish (mostly served as a dessert but it can be savory), known also in the USA. Its name is derived from its topping.
After such a hard question, now it’s time to rest! Or play Cookie Jam. Good luck
