Pyre is the next action RPG from Bastion and Transistor developer

The team behind Bastion and Transistor is ready to reveal its next project. Pyre is a party-based action RPG set in a fantasy 2D world focused on dynamic real-time combat.

Players worldwide loved Bastion and Transistor, and now the team at Supergiant Games is announcing another game called Pyre. Like the two other titles, this will be an action RPG with beautiful, hand-drawn 2D visuals. This time around the player will command a party of exiles as they journey across the land of Downside, a mystical purgatory. There, they will have to combat rivals in a deadly competition called the Rites, whose champions can earn absolution and return home. As befits a fantasy game, Pyre will be overflowing with magical and supernatural enemies. See the reveal trailer below:

Pyre’s gameplay will be twofold: you will be able to select your travel destination at the game’s world map and then fight dynamic real-time battles. The developers are also talking about rich, non-linear story with lots of colorful characters. See the announcement on Supergiant’s official website for more info.

Pyre is slated for release in 2017. Once it’s ready, it will launch simultaneously on Steam and PlayStation 4. Before that happens, the game will be playable at PAX East this weekend.
