Resident Evil: Village May Skip Xbox Game Pass Due to Sony's Interference

The release of Resident Evil: Village is just over two weeks away. However, it may turn out that those hoping to play the game through Xbox Game Pass will have to wait at least a year.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. An alleged deal between Sony and Capcom has leaked on Twitter;
  2. It is supposed to guarantee that Resident Evil: Village will not appear on Xbox Game Pass or similar services for at least a year after its release;
  3. So far neither of the parties has confirmed the authenticity of the document.

The latest installment of the classic survival horror game series - Resident Evil: Village - will soon make its debut. This is one of the biggest releases of the year, certainly awaited by a large number of people. Before the game's launch, the players have the opportunity to play several demo versions prepared by Capcom - with priority for owners of PS4 and PS5 consoles. As it turns out, this is not the only aspect of RE:Village in which Sony may have priority - a French streamer has shared documents indicating that the game will not appear in Xbox Game Pass until next year. The alleged deal between Sony and Capcom is to ensure that Resident Evil: Village will not be available on Xbox Game Pass or any other competing subscription service for at least a year. The information was confirmed by reliable leakers, unfortunately all of their posts have already been deleted from Twitter.

"Resident Evil Village will not appear on Xbox Game Pass for at least a year. This is according to a confidential agreement between Capcom and Sony.

It looks like Sony is inserting an "Anti-GamePass" clause into its contracts with studios."

This information has not been officially confirmed by either party and we don't know if the leak is true, so these revelations should be approached with caution. Circumstantial evidence, however, may indicate a grain of truth in these reports - after all, Sony console owners have priority in playing the Village and Castle demos, and the Maiden demo was exclusive to PS5. It's hard not to get the impression that PlayStation has a kind of advantage in the case of RE:Village .

For now, however, there's no reason to start another console war - after all, the document isn't necessarily true, and even if it is, we don't know if Capcom's plan was to make its horror game available on Xbox Game Pass in the first place, so saying that Sony is taking the new Resident Evil away from Microsoft is a bit far-fetched at this point.

Resident Evil : Village will debut on May 7, on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
