RTX 3090 is 15% Faster Than RTX 3080 but Few Will be Available

Nvidia revealed the performance of the top-shelf model of the Ampere family, the GeForce RTX 3090, and informed of a relatively small number of cards to be available in stores on the day of release.

Today marks the launch of the successor to RTX Titan
IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. RTX 3090 is 50% more efficient in games than RTX Titan and 10-15% faster than RTX 3080,
  2. Nvidia apologizes in advance for possible problems with the availability of the flagship chipset.

Yesterday, GeForce RTX 3090 was released as the first 8K gaming GPU. Nvidia also revealed that the Ampere flagship chipset is on average 50% faster in games than RTX Titan, resulting in a 10 to 15% performance increase over the RTX 3080. The internal tests that produced these results were conducted at 4K resolution. After the fanfares accompanying the announcement, one can be a bit disappointed with this performance.

Performance gains in apps should satisfy the target group

Users who need a card for (semi)professional use should be satisfied. They will get a chipset with more than 50% more performance than RTX Titan in their apps. The 24GB of fast VRAM GDDR6X memory and the price, compared to its predecessor or specialized Quadro GPU, are also strong arguments. For the GeForcRTX 3090, those interested must pay at least $1500 (Founder's Edition). As a reminder, RTX Titan cost about $1300 more during its debut in December 2018.

The launch of the most efficient representative of the RTX 3000 series will take place today. Independent benchmarks should appear in the morning. However, a limited number of chipset in stocks should be kept in mind. Nvidia apologized for any availability problems that might arise and explained that they are due to low production volume. The interested parties must therefore hope that the situation from last week will not be repeated.
