Sony Boasts Impressive Results for PS4, PS5 and PS Plus

Sony has disclosed updated sales figures for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles, as well as the number of PS Plus subscribers.

PLAYSTATION'S RESULTS:
  1. 10.1 million PS5's sold;
  2. 116.4 million PS4's sold;
  3. 46.3 million PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Sony released its financial results report. The document included information that 10.1 million PlayStation 5 and 116.4 million PlayStation 4 consoles were shipped by the end of June this year.

In Q2 2021 2.3 million units of PS5 and 500,000 copies of PS4 were moved. These figures clearly show that gamers are switching to the new generation. The numbers achieved by PlayStation 4 were 1.4 million lower than in the same three months of last year.

Sony also shared other interesting data. The number of subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service reached 46.3 million, an increase of 1.3 million compared to the second quarter of 2020.

Furthermore, 63.6 million PS5 and PS4 games and apps were sold between April 1 and June 30, 2021. This category saw a decrease of 27.8 million compared to last year.

10.5 million of the 63.6 million was for games developed by Sony's internal studios. This was 8.2 million fewer copies than in Q2 2020. Interestingly, there was a decrease in the share of digital distribution (from 74 by 71%) in sales.

PlayStation 5 debuted on the market in November last year. A few weeks ago, Sony boasted that this is the fastest-selling console in the history of the company. Achieved results are all the more impressive that they were obtained during a pandemic and in the face of problems with the supply of chips needed in production.
