Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PC Hailed as the Worst Port of 2023

Digital Foundry has published a devastating analysis of the PC release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. According to the video, it is the worst AAA game PC port this year.

We already know that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the latest game by Respawn Entertainment and a sequel to the the big hit from 2019, has turned out to be a real disaster on PC due to its disastrous technical condition. Digital Foundry has published a new video that shows how numerous the problems of the game's PC release are.

Just how bad is the PC edition of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor? Digital Foundry's video opens with the statement that this is the worst AAA game port for PC this year. That's a devastating assessment of this game considering that in 2023 PC gamers also received the nightmarish The Last of Us: Part I.

The game takes flak primarily for its abysmal optimization. Digital Foundry, even on a PC with an Intel Core i9 12900K processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 card, could not get full performance, and regular stuttering (even after lowering the level of detail) severely harms the experience. The game also has a yon of nasty visual bugs and a very aggressive DRM (about which we extensively wrote about in a separate article).

Digital Foundry also criticizes the poor menus. To make matters worse, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor clearly has trouble implementing some of the settings changes, and a reboot of the game is required to get adequate performance afterwards. On top of that, the game doesn't offer the DLSS option (which is all the more strange, since adding it in Unreal Engine 4 is relatively easy) and players have to rely on the competing FSR, which, in the case of this title, causes large drops in quality.

To make matters worse, some of the game's problems already plagued the first part of the series. The devs not only failed to fix them in the sequel, but added a lot of new shortcomings. A number of industry insiders also agree with Digital Foundry, such as Tom Henderson or Tom Warren. All in all, it shows that the developers could have done a better job porting Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to PC and, at least for now, it's best to avoid this edition of the game.
